Traditionally Lucifer was the angel who challenged god and caused rebellion in heaven in an attempt to take over the Throne of heaven and was duly cast out by Michael to take up residence in hell. Both the brightest of angels and the darkest of devils, Lucifer is another complex image.
I became interested in this figure when I was thinking about Michael. The more I thought about it the more I began to realize that Lucifer's biggest sin was curiosity. Lucifer, it seemed to me, was the angel who was asking questions when she should have been relying on faith; and since the act of questioning goes against the act of faith, naturally Lucifer would have become an adversary to god.
"This image shows Lucifer before the fall, possibly mere moments before the fall. The dark windows are the most telling symbol in the picture: her eyes have been opened, but she cannot see out. The room is cold and prison like and she is wearing white (which I consider the color of death).
